SUMMARY:Schubert's Winterreise: A Staged Dramatization
DESCRIPTION:Tenor Brandon Hollihan and pianist Junghwa Lee will be performing Franz Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise (“Winter Journey”) as a staged dramatization in the Tarr Music Center at Carson-Newman University on Monday\, August 26 at 7:30 pm. \nOne of Schubert’s last compositions\, Winterreise explores themes of love\, isolation\, and mortality in a 24-song program for solo voice and piano. Both programs are sung in German\, with English translations and program notes. The staged presentation at Carson-Newman will be complete with set design\, costumes\, props\, and even other actors interacting with the singer on stage. This special event is made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Appalachian College Association. Featuring current C-N students Molly Cox\, Trais Garrett\, and Noah Hubbard\, as well as alumni Turner Bell and Zachary O’Connor working in the cast and crew. \nThe performance is free\, with a freewill offering to help support choral projects at Carson-Newman\, respectively.
