Nursing Department Administrative Assistant Carson-Newman University is a Christian, liberal arts-based University built upon the Lordship of Jesus Christ as evidenced historically and revealed in the Scriptures. Job Title: Nursing Department Administrative Assistant Department: Nursing Reports To: Chair of Nursing FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Time Requirements: Full Time The department administrative assistant is responsible to the chair, department of nursing. Functional Description: As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks. Serves as a receptionist for the department of nursing. Assist with maintenance of necessary records for and preparation of documentation required for the university, CCNE, and Tennessee State Board of Nursing. Takes and maintains department faculty meeting minutes. Coordinates and participates in activities designed to encourage student prospects through the admission, advising, registration, and financial aid process. Assist with documentation related to student admission and progression. Coordinates with various departments and partners as needed (Security, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Treasurers Office, Registrar, etc.) to help ensure operational effectiveness of the department. Supports the department by ordering and maintaining necessary office equipment and departmental supplies, preparing, and submitting request for purchase, and maintaining records to assist in evaluating budget reports. Coordinates with others as needed for special events for the departments of nursing (regional HOSA competition, Blessings of the Hands, Celebration of Excellence, etc.). Assist with planning of departmental events (regional HOSA competition, Blessings of the Hands, Celebration of Excellence, etc.). Other duties as assigned by the department chair or assistant chairs. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education preferred. Experience: At lease one year of experience in an administrative position. Required Skills: Exceptional organizational and communication skills. Excellent Customer Service Skills. Proficiency in the use of appropriate technology (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.). Training will be provided on additional systems necessary for fulfilling duties (Slate, Colleague, Informer, etc.). Physical Demands: Must be able to do computer work for several hours a day, must be mobile to wait and serve department needs. While preforming duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to move about the office and campus. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 10 pounds.
