Job Title: Medical Assistant (MA, CNA, LPN, RN) Department: Health Services Reports To: Director of Health Services Location: On-site FLSA Status: Exempt Time Requirements: 37.5 hours a week Supervisory Responsibilities: None Summary Description: The Medical Assistant is a full time, twelve months position responsible for assisting the front desk with processing patients; greeting patients, gathering information of patient’s history, vital signs, and pertinent medical information, perform appropriate testing, cleaning and organizing exam rooms. Greet patients entering the Wellness Center. Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures related to patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA. Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control and environmental safety. Ability to adhere to the core values of the University as well as demonstrate good teamwork, communication, and friendliness with all staff, faculty, students, and patients. Identify patient concerns and react accordingly. Answer the telephone, screen calls, retrieve voicemails, return patient calls, respond to patient emails in a timely manner. Assist front desk personnel with patient check in/out procedures when necessary. Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, height, and weight, brief history including past medical, family, and social history; discuss current medications, allergies, and obtain review of systems as it pertains to chief complaint. Be able to operate and work well with an Electronic Medical Record System. Assist with procedures directly supervised/performed by the provider. Perform patient testing including but not limited to strep, mono, UA, flu, and COVID; accurately document test and results in patient chart. Be able to understand what precautions are needed to be taken regarding PPE when interacting with different diseases. Interpret Public Health COVID-19 Return to School Decision Support Algorithm to identify, communicate, and carry out tasks related to COVID-19 including testing, quarantine/isolation protocols, and appropriately recording/tracking this information as necessary. Clean exam rooms, restock supplies, and organize. Responsible for managing referral process for specialists/providers outside of facility. Obtain and coordinate staff coverage for programs along with tracking and analyzing data related to outreach activities and programs. Follows nursing protocol set by the MA and the provider in the clinic. Other duties as assigned. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical Assistant Certificate, Licensed Practical Nurse License, Certified Nursing Assistant License or RN license with appropriate education associated with each license. Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant, LPN, CNA, or RN preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply. Required Skills: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, prioritize job duties, work quickly and efficiently, operate under current state and license guidelines, and have great organizational skills. Healthcare experience preferred. Medical assistant professional personnel must perform their duties within the limits of their training, expertise, and competence. Must maintain in good standing with their state licensing boards and complete their regular professional development requirements.
