Library Circulation and Acquisitions Coordinator

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Trains and supervises all student library workers             

Summary Description:

This position provides administrative support to the Dean of the library and librarians of the university, as well as circulation support to faculty, staff, students and the public.  In addition, this position is responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising the library student staff. This position is also responsible for purchasing library materials, supplies, and resources. The individual in this position often serves as the first point of contact with library patrons and must provide outstanding customer service with a pleasant demeanor.

Essential Functions:

  • As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
  • Interacting harmoniously with the public, co-workers, faculty, students and staff
  • Communicating with the Office of Financial Assistance to hire library student workers
  • Scheduling, supervising, and training 15 – 20 student workers for the circulation desk
  • Approving timecards for students
  • Assisting with supervision of the Circulation Desk and the student workers assigned to work at the desk
  • Ordering supplies, library materials, and resources
  • Processing of all library invoices
  • Written acknowledgment of gifts and donations
  • Assisting with mail routing
  • Maintaining paper and toner for copy machines and computer lab printers
  • Shares responsibility for opening and closing the library
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:  Baccalaureate degree preferred

Experience:   At least one year experience in a similar position preferred

Required Skills:  Strong customer service orientation. Good oral and written communication skills. Strong computer skills, including competency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Attention to detail. Ability to multi-task.
