Executive Director of Marketing — CPS

Department: College of Professional Studies.                                        

Reports To: Dean of Professional Studies.

FLSA Status: Exempt.

Time Requirements: Full-time Remote Position

Summary Description:

The Executive Director of Marketing will mastermind marketing efforts of the College of Professional Studies (CPS). Reporting to the Dean of the CPS and working in coordination with university marketing leadership, the Executive Director will be a vital voice within the college, supplying high-level vision and strategic leadership in these areas that will position the college for growth and student success. The Executive Director will also serve on the college’s leadership team, be a highly visible influence on the CPS’s marketing, product, services, and growth.

The Executive Director will lead and manage all aspects of CPS marketing efforts and be a vital partner for the college’s enrollment management practices and processes. This role will be responsible for strategic brand management, creation, direction, and coordination of the college’s overall marketing plan, strategies, and design. This position also collaborates regularly with the Executive Director of Enrollment Management for CPS, helping to ensure the most effective communication practices and processes are being used to achieve effective student admission, orientation, start, and retention. The Executive Director will build, lead, and manage a team that will develop and implement the ongoing communication efforts that are vital for the college’s ability to reach and serve students.

Being able to plan, develop, and oversee the execution of holistic marketing and associated activities—and being a collaborative voice that helps shape enrollment management and program development—with a growing team in a new college will be an exciting opportunity for the person serving in this role.

This position is eligible for remote work or can be location-based. However, there will be some occasional travel to other college locations.

There may be occasional travel for conferences/training.

Functional Description:

Manage CPS’s overall marketing and communication efforts:

  • Develop a creative and data-driven strategy for CPS marketing and communications, ensuring growth and alignment as the new college develops.
  • Implement brand strategy development, the creation of marketing collateral, project management, analysis, and vendor relationships.
  • Utilize a diversified marketing mix that yields a quantifiable and significant return on marketing investments across the spectrum of channels to drive increased student enrollments and revenue. 
  • Engage with various university staff to ensure understanding of CPS strategy while recognizing and honoring strengths and nuances; provide communications about CPS to support the entire organization.
  • Work with other marketing and communications professionals within the college and across the university to achieve business results.
  • Oversee the development of all marketing creative and collateral for the CPS (utilizing staff or vendors as needed).
  • Implement assessment methods to understand and grow our communications and marketing impact.
  • Build and lead a college marketing team including professional development, coaching, and building infrastructure to grow skills including guidance to departmental staff within a matrixed organization.
  • Manage the CPS marketing budget to optimize the effectiveness of resources.

College leadership

  • Provides a vital voice in college and program development by being responsible for developing, informing, and collaboratively defining the market positioning/differentiation of both the CPS and each of its strategic program offerings.
  • Develop effective reports and reviews for marketing operations, recommending, developing, and refining various key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, dashboards, etc. that will inform college and university leadership on the performance of the college’s program and the college as a whole.
  • Oversee relationships and services with strategic marketing partners.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement that maximizes marketing strategies and tactics.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, communications, or related field; master’s degree or higher preferred

Experience:  

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated Christian commitment with the ability to integrate a Christian vision and perspective into marketing efforts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  • At least five or more years of experience in marketing, communications.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and best practices, particularly in the fields of publishing and journalism.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to lead comprehensive marketing efforts.
  • Familiarity with enrollment management/CRM practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with marketing and enrollment management technologies (e.g., CRM, Google Analytics, digital and social media marketing platforms).
  • Strong social media skills and knowledge of best practices to maximize social media engagement.
  • Understanding of best practices in digital marketing and audience development.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

In addition, the preferred requirements for this position include:

  • A master’s degree in marketing, communications, or a highly related field.
  • Five years or more years of progressive leadership with experience supervising and leading teams (for a well-qualified and capable talent, three years or more will be considered for a director title in this position).
  • Experience in higher education, particularly in the areas of professional, online, or continuing educational efforts.
  • Experience with Slate.
  • Experience working with marketing partners and vendors.
  • Affinity for professional and working adult student populations.
