Assistant or Associate Professor of Philosophy

Job Title:      Assistant or Associate Professor of Philosophy                                                

Department:   Philosophy and World Languages                                            

Reports To:  Chair of Philosophy and World Languages, Dean of AHSS                          

Location:   On-site

FLSA Status: Exempt

Time Requirements:   Full time                          

Supervisory Responsibilities:  none     

Summary Description:  Faculty member will teach a variety of Philosophy classes, maintain an ongoing research agenda, and perform service to the college through committee and departmental work. Specific faculty duties can be found in the Faculty Handbook.

Essential Functions:

  • As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
  • Teach a variety of Philosophy classes, maintain an ongoing research agenda, and perform service to the college through committee and departmental work
  • Performs other duties as required

Education:  PhD or equivalent in Philosophy expected; ABD considered

Experience:   Prior teaching experience preferred.

Required Skills:  Ability to teach a wide range of Philosophy classes in a small, but vibrant major. Applicants should be prepared to nurture and grow a venerable Philosophy major and will be able to influence curriculum development. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach everything from Introduction to Philosophy and Critical Thought, to senior level Philosophy seminars.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time. Must be able to access and navigate campus facilities.
