Job Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology

 Reports To: Psychology Department Chair

 Summary Description:

Carson-Newman University invites applicants for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology. The position is a full-time tenure track to begin in August 2023. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Candidates for the position should have a doctorate in psychology or be very near the completion of their degree. A successful candidate will be able to contribute to our general psychology core and an area related to their expertise. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in clinical, counseling, and/or other applied areas. We are a small, discipline-diverse psychology department that values excellence in teaching and advising, mentoring undergraduate students in research and community service, and using collaborative decision-making.

Functional Description:

  1. As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
  2. Reviewing and preparing course materials prior to term start date
  3. Equipping students with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities by meeting all designated course instruction guidelines
  4. Promoting learning interactions through engaging in proactive communication, responding to student inquiries, monitoring class interactions, and holding office hours
  5. Assessing student performance and providing timely and specific feedback
  6. Advising and preparing students to fulfill their full potential, equipping them for meaningful careers and thriving lives
  7. Stays current in their field by attending conferences and conducting relevant research.
  8. Serves on assigned University committees.
  9. Completes other duties as assigned
  10. Providing a positive Christian example to students by supporting Carson-Newman University’s mission and doctrinal statement.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 Education: Master’s degree with 18 hours in Psychology (Ph.D. or other doctoral degree preferred)

Experience:  

  • Demonstrated Christian commitment with the ability to integrate a Christian vision and perspective within the field of study
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence
  • Relevant professional experience
  • Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level preferred.

Required Skills: Familiarity with office computer systems such as Microsoft Office®. Ability to learn or use Canvas. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
