Dr. Crutchley came to Carson-Newman in 2004 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and teaches upper-level New Testament electives that include Sermon on the Mount, the Fourth Gospel, and Paul. He grew up in southern Africa and leads the annual summer trip to Cape Town, South Africa teaching a course, “Being Fully Human: A Spirituality Out of Africa.” He also leads the annual spring break to Israel with students and Religion faculty. His wife Carol grew up as a missionary kid in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). He has two sons, Russ and Matt who live in Washington and Maryland: Russ is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Washington State and Matthew an anesthesiologist. His daughter Abigail is an eighth grader. Dr. Crutchley received Carson-Newman's 2016 Distinguished Faculty Award.
