CPT David C. Hoy is from Findlay, Ohio, and is the son of Raymond and Vicki Hoy. CPT Hoy commissioned from Bowling Green State University’s (BGSU) Army ROTC program in May 2012 as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation, CPT Hoy attended the Engineer Basic Officers Leader Course at Fort Leonard Wood, (FLW) Missouri.
CPT Hoy’s past military assignments include the 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, stationed at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, from November 2012 until June 2015. During this time, CPT Hoy served as a plans officer in the battalion S3, and as a platoon leader in the 573rd Clearance Company.
In 2015, CPT Hoy was assigned to the 54th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Airborne), 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) in Vicenza, Italy. There, he served as a plans officer and, later, the deputy brigade engineer, from July 2015 until March 2017. During this time, he planned and executed several multi-national training exercises, primarily with the British, German, and Italian Armies. CPT Hoy then returned to FLW for the Engineer Captains Career Course in March 2017. At this time CPT Hoy completed a Master of Science in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. From March 2018 until February of 2019, CPT Hoy served as the G3/3 Support Operations Officer for the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) G3, at FLW Missouri.
From 12 February 2019- 17JUL 2020, CPT Hoy served as the company commander of the 509th Clearance Company, where he was responsible for the training and welfare of 148 Officers, NCOs and Junior Enlisted Soldiers, and the maintenance and readiness of dozens of specialized military vehicles, and property valued at $78M.
CPT Hoy has now joined the “Bold Warrior Brigade” of 7th BDE Army ROTC where he serves as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
CPT Hoy’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from BGSU, and a Master of Science in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. His military education includes Airborne School, Electronic Security System Design Course, Dual Sensor Mine Detection Course, Engineer Officers Basic Course, and Engineer Captains Career Course.
CPT Hoy’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (Gold), the Italian and German (Bronze) foreign parachute wings, and the Army Parachute Badge.
