Carson-Newman’s nursing program shines in reaccreditation process

Carson-Newman Assistant Professor of Nursing Bobbi Jones, left, works with rising senior Mollie Meneley. Often cited for its quality, Carson-Newman’s nursing program recently received a 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

(June 3, 2014)– Carson-Newman University recently announced its nursing program has earned a 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for meeting or exceeding all accrediting criteria.

“The CCNE accreditation process focuses on educational quality,” said Nursing Department Chair Dr. Angela Wood. “This measure of quality is one that is recognized nationally and speaks to the level of achievement at both the BSN and MSN levels.”

The CCNE, a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, allocates both five and ten-year reaccreditation certificates depending on the schools ability to reach accrediting standards. Only programs that fully meet or exceed all standards are awarded a 10-year accreditation.

Wood says that Carson-Newman has always met the highest accreditation standards since the inception of the nursing program, and this year’s reaccreditation results are no surprise. She credits Carson-Newman’s faculty.

“They all have advanced education degrees, are involved in community outreach, clinical practice and have cutting edge skills and knowledge to teach our students,” she said.

Carson-Newman’s nursing program offers bachelor and master’s level degrees. Bachelor level nursing programs are offered in the traditional and accelerated tracks. Advanced degrees are available for Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator and a combined degree. An Online RN to BSN Program and Online Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner are also available.
