Education - (M.A.T. or M.Ed.)

In addition to the Common Admission Requirements for all C-N graduate programs, applicants to Masters of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) with Job-embedded Practitioner Licensure must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for admission to the program:


  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 overall and 3.0 in the undergraduate major
  • Statement of Purpose, outlining your professional and educational goals.
  • Three recommendations (academic, employment, and character reference)
  • Professional Resume
  • Completed successful Entrance Interview for M.A.T. program.
  • Passing Content Knowledge PRAXIS II score from within the past five years is required
  • BACKGROUND RECORDS CHECK submitted directly to Carson-Newman: no second-party background checks are accepted.


M.Ed. w/ Job-embedded Practitioner License

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 overall
  • Verification of having met the content knowledge in the licensure field or having passed Praxis II specialty score in the licensure field taken in the past 4 years.
  • A copy of a Letter of Intent to hire from a Principal, Assistant Principal or school district office administrator

Other factors that may be considered in the admission decision are:

  • A demonstrated record of achievement;
  • Breadth and depth of work experience;
  • Leadership—demonstrated and/or potential;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Extracurricular and community involvement;/li>
  • Current licensure(s)
