What is State Authorization?
The United States Department of Education requires that institutions of higher education comply with any applicable state approval or licensure requirements in each state to which distance education instruction is delivered. (The State Authorization Regulation Chapter 34, §600.9(c)).
In an effort to comply fully with this policy Carson-Newman has entered into membership with NC_SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.
What is SARA?
"The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement is an agreement among member states, districts and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. Carson-Newman University's Status
As of February 1, 2018, Carson-Newman University is applying for renewal of membership in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).
