Purpose: The Village small group is a genuinely diverse small group on Carson-Newman’s campus. The Village seeks to meet a need on campus to help promote more diversity through the way of worship style, structure of the event, and being strictly ran by students. The Village is a faith-based organization but is accepting of all religious backgrounds. The founders Chainna Scott and T.J. Bryant along with the representatives of the Village all strive to not only bring African American culture to the campus, but also hope to inform students, faculty, and the community of the differences of the cultures that are represented on our campus. So how will this be accomplished? We will first start with worship music, that being gospel. Followed by a peer sharing his/ her story collaborated with a bible story or verse. Then, we will have a time of discussion amongst the group based on the speaker of the night followed by a closing prayer. The Village is more than just a small group, we aspire to create collaborative events that bring minority awareness to our campus, volunteering within the community, and promoting a genuine atmosphere for all students to feel comfortable to join and share.
