Appalachian Commons Information

About Appalachian Commons

Appalachian Commons is the on-campus apartment complex, and is made up of two buildings - Greenbrier and LeConte.  Each building has three floors with 2-person and 4-person apartments.  Each apartment contains a living area, kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms.  The 2-person apartments have 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, and the 4-person apartments have 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. 

Apartment Layout

Furniture and amenities are included in each apartment.  The kitchen includes a full oven and range, full refrigerator, 2 counter-top stools, and plenty of counter space!  Each living area includes a loveseat, chair, coffee table, and end table.  Bedrooms include a bed, dresser, closet, desk, and chair. Each private bedroom also has its own window, and a locking door.  

Appalachian Commons - What to Bring

Appalachian Commons apartments function within the Department of Residence Life, and as such, residents are expected to abide by policies listed in the Guide to Residence Life

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for Appalachian Commons, you must meet the following requirements*:

  • Must have completed at least 60 credit hours by the start of the semester for which you are applying (i.e. If you are applying for Fall 2020, you must be in the process of completing 60 hours in the Spring 2020 semester. Note: Summer hours will NOT be counted towards the total credit hours).
  • Must have at least a 2.5 GPA at the beginning of the semester for which you are applying.
  • Must submit to a disciplinary record check through both the Dean of Students and the Office of Residence Life. Students must be free of code of conduct violations for the academic school year prior to the semester for which they are applying to live in the apartments**.

The Application Process

Each applicant will apply for Appalachian Commons individually using the linked application below. This application will be good for one whole academic year. There is no preference given to a student who currently lives or has lived in Appalachian Commons. Classification is based upon number of hours rather than numbers of years. The placement for Appalachian Commons will be as follows:

    1. Seniors with a 4.0-3.0 GPA
    2. Juniors with a 4.0-3.8 GPA
    3. Seniors with a 3.0-2.5 GPA
    4. Juniors with a 3.8-2.5GPA
    5. Graduate Students

This system strives to reward students who have excelled academically and desire to transition from a traditional hall setting to a more independent living arrangement. 

*Residence Life reserves the right to place students who do not meet these requirements due to special circumstances.

**Any misconduct that occurs while living in Appalachian Commons may result in disciplinary action and/or removal from Appalachian Commons.

Cost*

A 2-person apartment costs $2,555 per person per semester.

A 4-person apartment costs $2,200 per person per semester.

Appalachian Commons residents are eligible for the following Meal Plans: Unlimited Plan, Weekly 12, Commuter 100.

*All costs listed are based on the 2019-2020 academic year, and are subject to change.
