Recreational Services Trips – Fall 2018

The Recreational Services Council has five trips planned for students this fall! This is your personal invitation from the council members: Corbin Hedges, Tristan MacDonald, Joseph Mixon, and Spenser Smith to join the fun! Final registration for all trips is in the Rec. Services Office - MSAC room 1014 along with payment as required per trip. On-line pre-registration is available below.


HIKE IN THE SMOKIES - Saturday, September 8 – 9 am – 4 pm Great Smokies

Soak in the beautiful fall colors of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with an invigorating hike to Midnight Hole and Mouse Creek Falls. Enjoy a beautiful waterfall and then also enjoy swimming in a natural pool on the way back down. The hike to Midnight Hole is only 2.8 mile round trip. The hike to Mouse Creek Falls is 4 miles round trip and is moderate to easy in difficulty. Mouse Creek Falls is a 45 foot waterfall and you will pass Midnight Hole on the way up and on the way back. Trip capacity: 20 persons. Transportation in 2 vans. Leave C-N at 9:00am and return about 4:00pm. Trip is FREE including transportation, but participants are responsible for bringing their own food for lunch or snacking on the trail.


KAYAKING & PADDLEBOARDING – Sunday, September 23 – 1:30pm - 5:00pm, Cherokee Lake, Morristown

Ever try lake kayaking or the new popular sport of paddleboarding? Now's your chance. Try either or both for an enjoyable couple of hours on Cherokee lake near Panther Creek. All equipment is provided. We'll travel by van and car for about 25 minutes to River Sports Outfitters, and they'll set you up. You'll be back to campus in time for dinner. Trip capacity: 11 persons. Transportation in 2 vans. Leave C-N at 1:30pm and return about 5:00pm. Regular price = $20.00. Your cost is only $8.00 including transportation!

 

 BIKE TRIP - CREEPER TRAIL - Saturday, October 27 – 9:00am – 5:30pm, Damascus, VA

Ride the famous and gorgeous Virginia Creeper Trail! This 17-mile journey has beautiful mountain views, passes through pristine forests, crosses clear streams and generally brings peace to the soul! The ride is easy, mostly downhill, and well worth the effort. Bike rentals are available for those without a bike. Trip capacity 20 persons. Transportation on 2 vans. Leave C-N at 9:00am and return about 5:30pm. We will be eating lunch at Damascus about 11:15am. Participants are responsible for buying their lunch. Regular price (including bike rental and shuttle service) =$27.00. Your cost is only $13.00 + lunch ($8.00 + lunch if you bring your own bike)

 

ZIPLINING Jayell Ranch – Saturday, November 10 – 9:00am - 4:00pm, Sevierville

Experience some of the longest ziplines in the Smokies! The full zipline course includes 2 miles of zipping fun, high flying adventure, and 6 lines! Each line is built uniquely and all have different breath-taking scenery. One line goes through a 60 foot tunnel and 2 lines are over 3,000 feet long! Trip capacity 20 persons. Transportation in 2 vans. Leave C-N at 9:00am and return about 4:00pm. Regular Price = $69.00. (Your cost including transportation is only $35.00) Participants are responsible for food purchases while on the trip.

 

DOLLYWOOD - Saturday, November 17 – 10:00am - 7:00pm, Pigeon Forge

Spend the day at Dollywood, the theme park made famous by Dolly Parton. In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountains area. The park hosts a number of concerts and musical events each year, including appearances by Parton and her family, as well as other national and local musical acts. Dollywood hosts 2.5 million guests in a typical season. Enjoy the “Wild Eagle”, America's first wing coaster, and the first ride of its kind in the U.S. New last year was the “Lightning Rod”, the world's first launched and fastest wooden coaster. New this year is "Drop Line" which drops you over 200 feet at 77 mph! Rides, shows and food! Dollywood has something for everyone. You can’t go wrong with this trip! Trip capacity: 10. Transportation by 1 van. Leave C-N at 10:00am and return about 7:00pm. Normal cost = $70.00 (not including food). Your cost is only $15.00 including transportation. Trip participants are responsible for food purchased in the park.
