Important Information & FAQs

Application Process:
All participants MUST apply online. (www.cn.edu/spots) Please note that you may not be contacted for an interview until the deposit due date has passed. Please pay your deposit. This will hold your place. If for some reason you are not selected to participate then your deposit will be returned. For all other circumstances the deposit is considered non-refundable. When an applicant applies, they are expected to be serious about participating in a S.P.O.T.S. trip. If a trip is applied for the participant is expected to pay the deposit and remaining balance by the due dates listed. If more information is needed by the participant before applying, please contact a member of the Campus Ministries Staff. (cmorris@cn.edu or campusministries@cn.edu)

Interviews:
If this is your first time serving or you have never had a SPOTS interview then you will need to sign-up at the Campus Ministries House (865-471-3537 or e-mail Michelle Hodge, Campus Ministries Administrative Assistant, mhodge@cn.edu) for a 20-minute student-friendly meeting with a member of the Campus Ministries Staff, and/or a Missions Team representative. This is not a “yes/no” interview. This will help the staff to get to know you better (interests, skills, etc.). If you have had a previous interview but would still like to schedule an interview to ask questions about your specific trip, please follow the above instructions.

Team Meetings:
Teams will officially be announced and have their first team meeting after BCM’s B.A.S.I.C. on Wednesday, February 13th, 9:00 p.m., First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Each team will have approximately 1-2 additional team meetings to fill out paperwork, ask questions, bond with teammates, pray, and prepare for your mission experience.

Each trip has a different cost. All of the SPOTS Trips will be discounted from our ongoing S.P.O.T.S. fundraisers. (The discount is already deducted in the final described cost) The price includes all expenses (housing, meals, transportation, supplies, supplementary insurance, T-Shirt, and other necessary expenses), except souvenirs. The deposit is payable to Campus Ministries by the specified date. Please note the specific trip dates for each site since they are not all the same. Please also note that all deposits are due by Thursday, January 31st.

Fundraising:
You are responsible for securing the required funds. If cost is a problem for you, please let us know; some partial scholarships may be available. The Campus Ministries Office can provide a letter (after you submit your application) for you to send to your home church or other appropriate individuals inviting them to sponsor you. If you want your home church to sponsor you, please submit your application as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for you to send our letter with a cover letter from you to your church. An initial phone call to the appropriate contact person could assist in speeding up the process since time is short!

SPOTS Vouchers:
If you received a SPOTS Voucher during Missions Emphasis Week, please come to Campus Ministries to claim it. Do not lose this as it is the same as money. When you come to pay you will turn the voucher in with your payment and it will be credited toward your account.

NEW THIS YEAR: Personal Fundraising Opportunity!

An exciting new fundraiser is in the works for Spring 2019! This will not only help to reduce the trip cost for the entire SPOTS program but will also allow the opportunity to apply a partial portion of the raised funds to your personal trip balance. Please stay tuned for additional information coming in January!
Please note that all balances MUST be paid. Campus Ministries will work with each person on an individual basis; however, if your SPOTS balance is not paid, you will not be allowed to go on the desired SPOTS experience, unless alternate plans have been discussed with the Campus Ministries Staff. If a balance is not paid, a hold will be placed on your account and you will not be able to register for classes until it is paid.

Thanks for your interest! Let’s go serve together!
