Children's and Youth/Service/Foodbank/Special Needs/Animal Ministry
February 28 - March 5, 2020
“When are the Carson-Newman people coming back?!?!” This question is from a child who lives at the Chattanooga Children’s Home. While one week is not necessarily a long time it can certainly have a great impact! The children look forward to and count down the days until those “Carson-Newman people” come back. Thus, S.P.O.T.S. will once again partner with the wonderful ministry of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home located in Chattanooga, TN. Missionaries will connect with and minister to the children with very difficult pasts and home lives. The children and teens who live at the home range in age from elementary school through highschool living in cottages throughout the campus.
This missionary team will serve each morning at various downtown Chattanooga ministries. Each afternoon and early evening will be spent with the precious children of the Chattanooga Children's Home.
This missionary team will spend every afternoon and evening with the children of the Chattanooga Children's home. They will begin their week of service taking the kids on a "field trip" to an area attraction. Throughout the week they will be present each afternoon to meet the kids when they come home from school. They will then get the opportunity to hang out, help with homework, share their faith, and play games. They will also share dinner with the house parents and children as well as spend each evening in the cottages until it's time for the children to go to bed. The team will spend one service day at the home helping the ministry with landscaping, administrative tasks, and a large "Wal-mart run" for the cottages.
The food bank provides snack packs for children and school mobile pantries, provides nutritious meals to meet the unique dietary needs of 150 seniors per month, and serves those who are retired, disabled, earning barely enough to pay their rent, or anyone who finds themselves in need. Each month, 17,500 food boxes are provided to 2000 families who are served within the Chattanooga area. (Closed toe shoes are required)
Our mission team will be the hands to help supply this large need volunteering with warehouse help, food sorting & packing, and office assistance.
The Chattanooga Signal Center helps those with disabilities and additional challenges to strive to reach life-long independence. It is a social and recreation-based program to encourage children and adults to be independent in a safe yet lively setting. Participants enjoy fun activities and purposeful projects. Missionaries will serve with the children and adults playing games, doing projects, helping to assist the staff, and loving on all those that are present.
God's creation is not limited to those who just walk upright and on two legs! This team will be volunteering at the zoo to help beautify and to participate in much needed ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the zoo facilities. (Closed toe shoes are required)
