Carson-Newman University invites applicants for Principal Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program. The position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position to begin June 2019. Carson-Newman employs faculty and staff who are actively supportive, through a local church, of its aim as a university with a Christiam commitment.
Candidates for the position must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a PA associated area from an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification; a minimum of 5 years clinical practice as a Physician Assistant; and current Tennessee PA licensure. Previous PA program (or other health care related graduate program) faculty experience and/or classroom/clinical teaching experience at a Master’s level is preferred.
Principal Faculty in the Physician Assistant Program will be under the direction of the Program Director and Director, Didactic Education. Principal faculty’s primary responsibility is to design, refine, deliver, evaluate and assess outcomes of all didactic courses and activities. Additionally, the fulfillment of full time faculty duties including clinical site recruitment and development, student mentoring, ongoing program assessment, admissions, university committee participation and other scholarly activities.
The rank and salary will be commensurate with educational preparation and experience. Group life and health insurance as well as a 401K retirement plan are available on a participating basis.

Carson-Newman University has applied for Accreditation-Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Carson-Newman University anticipates matriculating its first class in May 2020, pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the September 2019 ARC-PA meeting. This program is also pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to the meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
