Carson-Newman University invites applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Family of Consumer Sciences. The position is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track to begin August 2019.
Candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate in nutrition, clinical nutrition, or dietetics; demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and potentially graduate courses in nutrition and food science, medical nutritional therapy, and community nutrition; direct student field experiences for a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD); and potentially develop and direct a Dietetic Internship; Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (TN) eligible; relevant professional experience in clinical nutrition and dietetics; evidence of ongoing or established scholarship; ability to advise and mentor undergraduate and potentially graduate students; commitment to teamwork and professional involvement.
Candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor will be expected to teach 24 semester hours per year; advise students in the discipline; and contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the university and department missions, be a collegial member of the institution at all levels, participate in professional and scholarly activities, and provide services to the department and to the community-at-large.
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. It currently offers five majors including Child and Family Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education (pre-K-3 teacher licensure); Family and Consumer Sciences with emphases in consumer services and teacher licensure in family and consumer sciences education; Fashion Merchandising and Design; Interior Design; and Foods and Nutrition with an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).
The rank and salary will be commensurate with educational preparation and experience. Group life and health insurance as well as a 401K retirement plan are available on a participating basis.
