PROGRAM OVERVIEW

With Carson-Newman’s intensive music performance degree program, you’ll be prepared to take the stage or to continue your education through graduate studies. The rigorous curriculum is designed for students who demonstrate advanced technique and musical artistry, as well as the discipline and aspiration to achieve. Our expert faculty with extensive musical backgrounds will mentor you throughout your educational journey. 

The small size of our program allows you optimal performing opportunities and individual attention while attaining the exceptional quality and standards of larger programs. In addition to our outstanding music ensembles, you may also choose to participate in musicals and operas on campus. To further your professional training, you can attend regional workshops, auditions and competitions.

In recent years, Carson-Newman ensembles have performed with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville Choral Society and in concert tours throughout the United States and across the globe, including a Christmas Eve performance in Bethlehem, Israel.

A study abroad course gives you the opportunity for directed and self-directed study in Germany and Austria that focuses on the music cultures of those countries.

HANDS-ON LEARNING

Music majors at Carson-Newman have opportunities to perform in a variety of musical ensembles. Voice ensembles include: A Cappella Choir, Men’s Chorus, Oratorio Chorus, Women Singers, Lyric Theatre and Redemption. Instrumental ensembles include: Symphonic Winds, Jazz Band and small group ensembles for piano, brass, woodwinds and percussion.
