Our Vision, Mission and Values

Vision

We will be the Christian liberal arts-based university of choice in the Southeast for education and service.

Mission

Our mission as Christian educators is to help our students reach their full potential as educated citizens and worldwide servant-leaders.

Values

Christian Worldview

We see the Christian university as an educational arm of the church, the body of Christ. As creator and sustainer of all things, Christ is Lord of the university. The Gospel of Matthew calls us to “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.”  Recognizing all truth as God’s truth, we follow this calling to live as his disciples.

The Bible

We affirm Holy Scripture as being given by God through people, to people. The complete and final Word of God is revealed in Jesus Christ.

Christian Community and Conduct

As an intentionally Christian academic community, Carson-Newman strives to follow Christian principles in all aspects of communal life. We submit ourselves to the teachings and example of Jesus Christ in all our relationships and work. Members of the C-N community are expected to embrace moral, ethical and biblical values on and off campus.

In the area of sexuality, lifestyles consistent with biblical teaching are expected. Specifically stated, sexual intimacy is to be expressed exclusively inside the marriage covenant, which shall be between a man and a woman.

Baptist Faith and Message

In recognition of our Baptist heritage and doctrinal identity, Carson-Newman affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. We are grateful for our partnership with churches of the Tennessee Baptist Convention whose faithful prayers and support are essential to our mission.
