Why Study a World Language?
There is nothing more central to humanity than the ability to think and to express that thought through language. The Department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and World Languages offers many opportunities for students to acquire the ability to think critically about life and language and to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. We explore questions like "what is knowledge and what is its relationship to language?" and "what is my place in the world?" By participating in any one of our majors, you will receive a broad and solid exposure to the greatest minds of the past and present from all over the world, and you will hone your own thinking and communicative skills in ways that will benefit you no matter what career path you choose. We offer our students many opportunities for community service, study abroad, and missions. Our students work closely with the faculty members and have a great amount of input into the classes that are offered every semester.
