Preparatory Department

The Preparatory Department at Carson-Newman University operates to provide quality music instruction to members of the local community.   

The mission of the Preparatory Department is to foster musical growth, understanding, and appreciation of music in students of all ages through involvement in music lessons, classes, and performance opportunities.

Applied instruction is available in the following areas depending on teacher availability:

The Preparatory Department runs on a ten-week semester which means 10 30-minute private lessons during the course of the semester. The cost for 10 lessons is $120. The $120 can be paid all at once or in two equal payments of $60 or four equal payments of $30 each. The first payment may be made at the first lesson.

Lesson times and days are scheduled by the private student teacher and the family. All lessons are taught in the Tarr Music Center on the Carson-Newman University campus.

Prep Department Recitals are held on the Sunday of finals week. This year’s dates are December 6, 2015 and May 1, 2016. Students enrolled in the Prep Department in addition to pre-collegiate students of music faculty/staff are invited to participate.
