Auditions for band scholarships (marching & symphonic) for those students who do not wish to major in music will be held on February 15, 2014. If you are interested in auditioning for a band scholarship or to play in an instrumental ensemble, please fill out the form located below the audition requirements. Call the band office at 865-471-3496 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for an audition appointment.
- Woodwind or Brass Instrumentalists – should prepare a single work or 2 contrasting movements totaling no more than 8 minutes which demonstrate technical proficiency, tone quality, and lyrical phrasing. Candidates should prepare all 12 major scales with common articulations and a chromatic scale to the full extent of their playable range. Auditions will also include sightreading.
- Percussionists - should prepare a solo on snare drum and a solo on marimba or xylophone. These instruments will be available at the audition; however, Carson-Newman Music Department will not provide sticks or mallets to students. Candidates should also be prepared to sightread and prepare all 12 major scales, chromatic scale, and the 40 PAS snare drum rudiments.
All audition music should be taken from standard etudes or solos for your instrument. Selections should not exceed a combined total performance time of 8 minutes.
