"Carson-Newman College, without a doubt, prepared me for my professional life in post-graduate education, my performing career, as well as my career as a sacred musician. When I entered graduate school, I feel like I was better prepared than my counterparts, both in applied lessons and in the classroom because I was given so many more opportunities for performance and accompanying at Carson-Newman. I think fondly on my time at Carson-Newman and would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to pursue a career in music."
Garrett Martin, Church Music, Class of 2008
"While working on my masters degree at a much larger state school, I realized that undergraduate students at larger institutions simply do not have the opportunities that Carson-Newman offers. At C-N, I was able to accompany a choir, a theater production, and many soloists, opportunities that are typically graduate student responsibilities at other schools. Though C-N is a smaller school, I felt more than prepared for my graduate studies. The classes offered for the BM program gave me a thorough background for graduate coursework. If I had the choice again, I would choose Carson-Newman with no reservations."
Olivia Ellis, Piano Performance, Class of 2009
"Having already been a music major for three years when I came to Carson-Newman, I knew what I was looking for when I decided to come here. Though larger than the school I attended previously, Carson-Newman is still a small school and I think that really makes a difference. You have a chance to get to know everyone in your major. They become like family, and when you are the “new kid” fitting in somewhere can go a long way. I was also very pleased with the instruction I received at Carson-Newman. I would gladly recommend any of the keyboard faculty as well as the music program at Carson-Newman College to anyone considering a degree in music."
Jamie Tucker, Instrumental Music Education, Class of 2011
"I would definitely recommend C-N to a prospective student considering keyboard studies. There are opportunities here to perform and work with faculty as student accompanists and to teach piano lessons to pre-college students on campus with chances for them to perform as well. Carson-Newman feels like a community with faculty that care about the student as an individual person involved in that community, not just another number in the crowd. Honestly, I do not know of any other college that makes you feel more at home than Carson-Newman."
Sarah Pridemore, Piano Performance, Class of 2012
"If I had to make the choice all over again I would choose Carson Newman because of the music faculty. Whether a student is in a separate studio or plays a different instrument, all of the faculty are on your side and want to see you succeed. It's nice to be at a school where you are able to have good Christian fellowship with your professors. Carson Newman is blessed to have such dedicated, talented, and godly people serving the school."
Carissa Wassenaar, Piano Performance, Class of 2012
"I chose the Carson-Newman Music Department because of the many options it offers for combining music with other fields. There is a great sense of community within both the department and the entire campus, and all of my professors have been wonderful about offering advice throughout my music and college career."
Sarah Beth Walker, Music and Early Childhood Education, Class of 2014
