Mrs. Laura Andon advises students throughout the Teacher Education Program and certifies graduate and undergraduate students for teacher licensure. She also prepares reports and maintains policy and program standards. She has more than twenty-five years of combined administrative experience in private K-12 and higher education.

Laura and her husband, Tom, have two children who are graduates of Carson-Newman.

Mrs. Baker directs student teaching and practicum field placements.  She has served as adjunct faculty teaching Literacy and Language Arts courses, Social Studies Methods, Home, School, and Community Relations, Reading Methods, and ASD Reading courses.  She has also served as a college coordinator supervising student teaching experiences.

Mrs. Baker's areas of interest include Professional Development, Literacy, and Curriculum.

She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National Staff Development Council (Learning Forward).

Mrs. Baker enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking, water sports and gardening.

Dr. Mark Brock teaches Advanced writing/research, ESL Methods, Syntax, Practicum, Language and Culture.

His specialty areas are the teaching of writing and teacher training. His areas of interest included World Englishes and language standards.

Dr. Brock is a member and past president of TNTESOL.

He enjoys farming, reading, and gardening.

Dr. Hawkins is the director of the Reading Specialist Program and teaches the core literacy courses in this program. Additionally, she teaches middle school methods, K-6 literacy methods, and middle grades literacy methods. Her areas of interest include reading for pleasure and motivation to read.

She is a licensed Reading Specialist and has taught in public schools in Tennessee and Texas. Her public school experience includes teaching in elementary, intermediate, and middle schools. She is a member of the International Reading Association, the Tennessee Reading Association, the Mossy Creek Literacy Council, and the Association for Middle Level Education.

She enjoys reading young adult novels and spending time with her husband and two children.

Mrs. Helms is the Data Management Coordinator for the Teacher Education Unit Assessment System. Her primary responsibility is maintaining the Assessment System database and generating appropriate reports as required by the unit head.

Mrs. Helms is a native of West Virginia who lived in Florida and Virginia Beach before moving to Dandridge, TN with her husband. She has one son who is currently a graduate student at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

She enjoys knitting, crocheting, cooking, and reading and has one cat.

Dr. Danny Hinson teaches Advanced Speaking Skills I, ESL Curriculum, English Phonology, Language Acquisition, and Evaluation in ESL.

His specialty areas include Teaching English in Foreign Language Settings, Intensive English Program Development, and Developing Speaking and Listening Skills.

His areas of interest include the role of individual differences in acquiring a second language and the impact of short-term intensive English programs on non-native speakers acquisition of English language skills.

He is a member of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Tennessee TESOL, and NASFA: Association of International Educators.

His hobbies and interests include traveling, golf, and reading.

Dr. Hinson is the Director of the Center for Global Education at C-N and also the sponsor of the International Club.

Mrs. Hodge is the administrative assistant for the School of Education.  She received her Associate's degree from Knoxville Business College (now South College) in Office Administration.  Her primarily responsibility is to serve as the receptionist for the School of Education Department and to provide clerical support to the Chair and the Dean; Admissions and Services Advisor, the Director of Field Experiences and faculty members.

She and her husband are natives of Jefferson County and have two children and four grandchildren.

She enjoys reading and creating crafts of all kinds, especially decorative tole painting.

Dr. Hypes teaches Survey of Persons with Exceptionalities, Counseling/Leadership in Special Education, Curriculum Development, Evaluation and Learning, Gifted/Talented, Methods of Teaching English Literature, Foundations of Education, Educational Research, and Behavior Disorders.

Her specialty areas and areas of interest include Special Education, Gifted/Talented, English and General Education/Special Education collaboration.

She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, TAILACTE-TN Conference of Graduate Schools (former president), TACTE (former president), Center for Teacher Quality (State Team Member), CACUPA (appointed member), Advisory Council on Teacher Education and Licensure (appointed member).

Dr. Hypes enjoys reading, gardening, crafts, woodworking, biking, hiking and grandparenting

Dr. Long teaches Special Education and Research courses. Her specialty area is neuropsychological functioning of children with special needs.

She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Kappa Delta Phi, and the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability.

Her interests are film, blues music, and reading.  She lives in Jefferson City with her husband, daughter, the world's most adorable granddaughter, and a host of cats and dogs..

Dr. Milligan teaches educational technology and elementary and middle social studies methods. Her areas of interest are team based learning and using Web 2.0 tools to increase collaboration.

She is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education and the National Council for the Social Studies and the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies. She is on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies and is the editor of the organization’s web site. She is also a member of the NCATE Board of Examiners.

She enjoys camping, bicycling, and jewelry making.

Dr. Price teaches in the Graduate Educational Leadership program. Classes include Curriculum and Instruction; Classroom Management; Diversity of the Home, School, and Community; Administrator Field Experience and Educational Research.

Dr. Price is a member of the American Association of University Women, National and TN Association of Elementary School Principals and, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

She has worked extensively in public education as a teacher and administrator and has been involved with higher education as an instructor for many years. Her areas of interest include current public education educational topics, teacher quality, and teacher evaluation.

Personal interests and hobbies include golfing, kayaking, running, and reading.

Dr. Taylor teaches Mathematics Education courses at the elementary, middle grades, and secondary levels. He also teaches Educational Research and Foundations of Education.

His research area is teacher learning, both preservice & inservice, with an emphasis on teachers as researchers.

Dr. Taylor is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Tennessee Mathematics Teacher Association, the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators , and the Tennessee Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. He also serves as a representative of Carson Newman to the Tennessee Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.

He enjoys running, woodcarving, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Teets currently serves as Chair for the Education Department and teaches a variety of courses in both undergraduate and graduate programs. She most often teaches Foundations of Education and Human Development. She is a lifetime member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and serves as the chief institutional representative for the Tennessee Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and the Association for Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education.

Her interests include reading both fictional and professional material, walking and jogging outdoors, cooking, and traveling.

Dr. Walker serves as the Director of the Educational Leadership Program. He teachers first-year classes in the program, which include: Foundations of Leadership; Legal and Ethical Issues; Change, Theory and Practice; Evaluation for Continuous Improvement; Management of the School; Administrator Field Experience; and Professional Learning Community. Undergraduate classes taught by Dr. Walker are Foundations of Education and Diversity of the Home, School and Community.
His previous teaching experience consists of 32.5 years in public education in Tennessee, having served twelve years as Superintendent of Morristown City Schools and Hamblen County Schools.

Dr. Walker is a native of East Tennessee, having spent most of his life residing in Hamblen County. His hobbies are woodcarving, fishing and hunting. He is married to Sandra Wade Walker. They have two sons, Roderick and Jason, and one granddaughter, Peyton.
