Danielle Schlafer, Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry, May 2010

“I am currently pursuing my Pharm. D. at UNC-Chapel Hill with an interest in translational research. I feel that Carson-Newman (the Honors Program, Health Pre-Professions Program, and Biology and Chemistry departments, in particular) has more than prepared me for professional school. I even got to test out of a class my first semester thanks to what I learned at C-N! In retrospect, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to attend C-N. I found knowledgeable and accessible professors, small class sizes, meaningful personal relationships, and the flexibility to explore several seemingly disparate interests. You simply can’t get all of that at a large university.”

(Footnote: Danielle, a National Merit Scholar, did her molecular biology/biochemistry honors research with Dr. Wright at C-N aided by a summer research stipend from the Appalachian College Association. She also did peer tutoring, received C-N’s Best Actress Award and Science-Humanities Award, and spent a Mayterm in Ireland with the English department. We’re proud of you, Danielle!)
