    Dr. Beecher received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a Master of Science in Retail and Consumer Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Human Ecology, all from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She began her Carson-Newman University career in fall 2004.

    Before starting at Carson-Newman University, Dr. Beecher worked in the retail industry at Proffitt’s corporate office as well as in the commercial real estate field at Wood Properties, Inc. She previously taught courses at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Tennessee Wesleyan College. She is a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. In her free time, she teaches aerobics and volunteers at several non-profit organizations in the Knoxville area.


  • Cassandra Catlett

    Mrs. Catlett joined Carson-Newman in 2007, having previously taught part-time. She is a graduate of C-N’s business program with majors in Accounting and Computer Science.

    She holds a Master’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Catlett is a CPA and has served as a tax professional with a “Big Four” accounting firm and a regional firm. She has also worked as a tax consultant for local businesses and individuals.

    Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Tennessee and his Master's degree in Finance from Sichuan University.  Dr. Chen joined Carson-Newman University in Spring 2013.  Prior to that, Dr. Chen was a Research Assistant at the University of Tennessee and taught various business classes there.


  • Clyde Herring

    Dr. Herring joined Carson-Newman University in July 2010. He previously was on the accounting faculty at Mississippi State University (MSU) for the past 23 ½ years where he held the Bill Simmons Teaching Fellow. During his tenure at MSU, Dr. Herring also served as the Interim Director of the Adkerson School of Accountancy in 2000 and again from 2006-2008.

    Dr. Herring received his Bachelor of Professional Accountancy in 1980 and Master of Professional Accountancy in 1981, both from MSU. After graduation, he began his career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) in Nashville, TN. In 1984, he entered the PhD program at University of Alabama and received his doctorate in 1988.

    Dr. Herring has been very active in professional organizations. He served in various positions for the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA); Awards, Education, and Scholarship Committee member for 23 years, Treasurer in 2001-2002, and Vice President/President/Past President from 2003-2006. From 2007-2010, Dr. Herring served a three-year term as an at-large board member. In 2001, he was recognized as the MSCPA Outstanding Educator for the state of Mississippi. Dr. Herring also served as a committee member, treasurer, vice president, and president of the local chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.


  • Kyle Kaplan

    Kyle Kaplan is honored to be an Assistant Professor of Business Administration and the Director of the MBA Program at Carson-Newman University.  In addition to teaching at Carson-Newman, Mr. Kaplan is the Owner and CEO of PLAYRITE, LLC, the premier sports and recreation construction company in Tennessee.  Mr. Kaplan is an active member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business, the Academy of Management, and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

    Previously, Mr. Kaplan worked for a variety of law firms and judges, and he taught eighth-grade math at Ranson Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a Teach For America corps member, where he was named the Outstanding First-Year Teacher of the Year.

    Mr. Kaplan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Sport Management at the University of Florida, and he is a proud member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame and Florida Blue Key.  Additionally, Mr. Kaplan earned a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society and served as the President of the Broun National Trial Team.

    Dr. Knight received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from the University of Tennessee and her Master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University. Dr. Knight began her Carson-Newman teaching career in fall 2000.

    Dr. Knight came to Carson-Newman from Triangle Economic Research where she worked as a Senior Economist. She previously taught at North Carolina State University.

  • Doreen McCammon

    Position: Visiting Instructor of Business

    Mrs. McCammon earned her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from East Tennessee State University, and her Master of Arts in Management from Tusculum College.  She began her Carson-Newman career in the Fall of 2013.

    She is in the Omicron-Psi National Honor Society, and an active member of the Leadership Sevier group.  She also participates as a volunteer in several non-profit organization's events annually.

    Before coming to Carson-Newman, Mrs. McCammon served for 16 years in management as the Director of Operations for an international organization.

    When she is not teaching, she is busy raising pure-bred polled Hereford cattle on her farm; playing soprano saxophone in the Sevier Heights Baptist Church Celebration Orchestra; and studying Isshin-Ryu karate and Ju-Jitsu where the group enjoys going on at least one mission trip per year to share the love and good news of the gospel of Christ through their practice of the martial arts.

    Dr. Percy joined Carson-Newman University in July 2013. 

    He served as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at King University in Bristol prior to joining Carson-Newman.  He began his career at King as an assistant professor of business and department chair.

    Percy, with 25 years of experience as a college professor of business, is an exciting addition to the University team, according to Carson-Newman administration.
