Major and Career Exploration Suggestions & Opportunities

• Take introductory classes in majors of interest.
• Conduct informational interviews with faculty and professionals in majors or fields of interest.
• Volunteer in organizations of potential career interest.
• Choose summer jobs as "career trials" when possible.
• Job shadow a professional in a position of interest.
• Utilize FOCUS-2, Carson-Newman's online career exploration and planning program, found under the links to the right.
• Check out a listing of all the majors offered at C-N and link to their webpages.
• Access the U.S. Department of Labor sponsored websites: www.careeronestop.com, www.mynextmove.org, and www.bls.gov/OCO  (Occupational Outlook Handbook).
• Paricipate in workshops for deciding students.   Watch for announcements on Eaglenet!
• Enroll in the ID 201: Major and Career Exploration course (offered at least once per academic year) for a structured, classroom approach to deciding on a major.  For deciding students only.  Meets twice weekly during first half of the semester it's offered for one hour credit.
