We currently have a need for Ph.D. Chemist or Chemical Engineer for Eastman's Research Division at our Eastman Chemical Company headquarters located in Kingsport, Tennessee. Technician position reporting to a laboratory scientist in one of several Technology Laboratories including Research & Development, Technical Service, and Manufacturing.
Responsibilities may include:
Collaborating with others on projects involving a variety of techniquesSupporting the evaluation and implementation of new technologies for commercial products and processesOperating, maintaining, and troubleshooting instrumentation and equipmentDocumenting experimental work and writing technical and invention reportsLeading and participating on multi-disciplinary teamsWorking with quality systems or providing reports to governmental or regulatory agencies
Candidate will be expected to develop hands-on and in-depth technical expertise with a variety of instrumentation and equipment. Will work safely and promote a safe work environment.
Candidate should possess:
Minimum of Associates Degree/Technical DiplomaLaboratory Technician QualifiedFormal training in general laboratory proceduresProblem solving, math and science skills and familiarity with statistical methodology. Working knowledge of chemistry and good laboratory skills are essential. Experience in chromatography, spectroscopy, or physical testing techniques is desirable but not required.Initiative and the ability to work in a team setting. Clear and effective written and oral communication is essential.General computer experience with standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with relevant software packages including chromatographic data systems, Visual Basic, LabView, and LIMS is preferred.
Chemistry — 23 hours — Mandatory courses are General Chemistry I and II with labs, Quantitative Analysis with lab, and Organic Chemistry I and II with labs. Examples of other science courses to meet the 23 hours of Chemistry credit are: Biochemistry, Qualitative Analysis, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Instrument Analysis, Chemical Calculations, Environmental Analysis, Seminar in Chemistry, Chemical Research, Advanced Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Chemical Engineering Courses
Physics/Science — 4 hours - Mechanics Heat, Sound, Light, Electricity & Magnetism, Introductory Physics, General Physics, Biology, General Science
Mathematics — 3 hours - College Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Math for Engineering Technologies
English — 6 hours - English Composition, Speech & Listening, Technical Report Writing, Grammar, Oral & Written Composition
Electives — 15 hours - Any course carrying college level credit except the following: Military Science, Freshman Orientation, Physical Education, Music, Health
