Network Account and File Space

All employees are entitled to a Carson-Newman network account.  With this account you are able to log onto the Carson-Newman network, send and receive email through the Carson-Newman email system, print to network printing and access the EagleNet intranet information and document portal.

Along with the network account, each employee receives a personal network file space where they are expected to save all work related documents.  This space, also known as the "M" drive, has a maximum limit of 2 gigabytes.  Employees are asked to not save personal documents, images, or music to this network file space.

The "M" drive is backed up nightly.  If files are saved on local drive space, such as the computer's hard disk, an external hard drive, or USB jump drive it is the employee's responsibility to backup the information.

The "M" drive is available only:

  • On-campus by logging onto a Windows computer >Start menu >Computer
  • On-campus Mac users by connecting to the server:  >Finder >Go menu >Connect to Server >smb://cnccdc01.cn.edu/username$
  • Off-campus through a secure VPN connection
  • Off-campus through the C-N Portal (virtual desktop)
