Ms. Bolyard is an instructor of speaking and listening in the ELI. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Cross-Cultural Sociology from Carson-Newman University and will complete her Master of Arts in Teaching: English as a Second Language in May 2013. She taught at a private English school in South Korea.Ms. Bolyard is currently teaching Level 1 Speaking & Listening and Level 3 Speaking & Listening.

Ms. Jane Busdeker is the Director of the English Language Institute and an instructor in the ELI. She has held those positions since August 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Bowing Green State University in Ohio and a Master of Arts in Teaching: English as a Second Language from Carson-Newman University. She also studied at Johnson University. Prior to coming to Carson-Newman, Ms. Busdeker spent 6 ½ years teaching English at Mashoko High School in Zimbabwe. She has also taught in Thailand and China.
Ms. Busdeker is currently teaching Level 4 Reading & Writing and Level 4 Grammar.

Ms. Carmen Cartwright is an instructor of speaking and listening in the ELI. She has an Associate of Arts degree in Hotel/Restaurant/Hospitality Management and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Marketing from Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. She also has a Master of Arts in Teaching: English as a Second Language from Carson-Newman University. She taught overseas at Handong Global University in South Korea and at other institutes of education and a church in South Korea.
Ms. Cartwright is currently teaching Level 4 Speaking & Listening.

Mr. David Crowe has been an instructor for the ELI for more than 10 years, teaching reading, writing, and grammar. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Missions from Johnson University and a Master of Arts in Teaching: English as a Second Language from Carson-Newman University. His overseas teaching experience was in Thailand.
Mr. Crowe is currently teaching Level 1 Reading & Writing and Level 1 Grammar.

Mrs. Jan Hinson has been an instructor in the ELI for more than 10 years, teaching reading, writing, and grammar. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a major in Sociology from Carson-Newman University and a Master of Arts in Multilingual-Multicultural Education from Florida State University. She has extensive experience teaching and serving overseas in Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Italy, Russia, and Thailand.
Mrs. Hinson is currently teaching Level 3 Reading & Writing and Level 3 Grammar.

Romana Hinton

Mrs. Romana Hinton is an instructor of speaking and listening at the ELI. She studied German Language and Literature at the University of Dortmund in Germany and History and German at the University of J.E. Purkyne in the Czech Republic. She has a Master of Arts degree in German Language and a Master of Science degree in ESL/FL Education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has taught both English and German in the USA and in the Czech Republic.
Mrs. Hinton is currently teaching Level 2 Speaking & Listening.

Ms. Lauren Wood is an instructor of reading, writing, and grammar in the ELI. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis on Cross-Cultural Studies and a Master of Arts in Teaching: English as a Second Language, both from Carson-Newman University. She has taught English language in South Korea and China.
Ms. Wood is currently teaching Level 2 Reading & Writing and Level 2 Grammar. She is also the Coordinator of the Conversation Partner Program.
