Community Connections has two available positions for the 2013-2014 school year. Job descriptions are given below.
- Service Learning and CN-volved Liaison
The Service Learning and CN-volved Liaison is responsible for making themselves available to the faculty and staff in order to suggest and aid in the planning of service events that meet the requirements of Carson Newman’s QEP. This member should regularly attend QEP meetings and maintain a relationship with the QEP director (Dr. Christine Jones).
This member will be expected to work with professors in brainstorming ways to connect class work with community needs to generate meaningful service experiences. This person will also be expected to work closely with the Community Partner Liaison to have knowledge of community partner needs to help inform service learning opportunities.
The liaison is required to attend weekly Community Connections meetings, work closely with other members of the team to provide meaningful service opportunities to the Carson-Newman community, and participate in each monthly event.
- Community Partners Liaison
The Community Partner Liaison is responsible for compiling an up-to-date list of current community partners. This member of Community Connections should contact the main list of twenty-five agencies at least once a month by phone or email. In addition, the liaison needs to contact the partners in person at least once a semester. A second list of twenty-five community partners should be updated each year and the liaison must contact these agencies at least once a semester via phone or email.
During Operation InAsMuch, the Community Partner Liaison should work closely with other members of Community Connections and the Operation InAsMuch committee to find sites to place volunteers. In addition, this member should have a current list of service needs throughout the area to direct students based on their interests and provide the Sports and Activities Planner with service opportunities. The liaison should work closely with the Public Relations person to publicize the needs of agencies in the area. The liaison should also be available to attend monthly InterAgency meetings.
In addition to individual roles, the liaison is required to attend weekly Community Connections meetings, work closely with other members of the team to provide meaningful service opportunities to the Carson-Newman community, and participate in each monthly event.
