Career Exploration

Are you having a hard time deciding on a major? Not sure what you want to do with your life? Here are some resources that can help you move in the right direction.

1. Take a Self-Assessment - this is a great way to see what your strengths are and how they might match with you major and career choices. There are several online resources, i.e. Kiersey, Temperament Sorter, and CHOICES Career Exploration. Our Career Center offers the Holland Self-Directed Search. You can take the Search in the Center and meet with a counselor to go over the results.

2. Take a class. Many of our freshmen take C-N 101 during their first semester. This class is designed to introduce new students to life at C-N, how to handle the rigors of college academics, how to handle stress and time management, how to manage your finances, and how to start thinking about choosing a major and career. You can also take ID 201 - Career Exploration. This class goes more in depth about career options and opportunities.

3. Visit our Career Center. We have counselors available to help guide you on the career path that is right for you. Again, they offer the Holland Self-Directed Search and will talk with you one-on- one about the results. http://www.cn.edu/ASC/career/default.htm

6. Conduct a career interview with people who are working in career fields that sound interesting to you.
