Student Activities

Student Leadership

Each year two student representatives from each level are selected by their classmates from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes to serve on the Nursing Division Student Affairs Committee and the Curriculum Committee. These six representatives provide a communication link between students and faculty within Nursing.

Student Guidance

Institutional student policies concerning admission, progression, retention, dismissal, graduation, and student rights and responsibilities may be found in the Carson-Newman College Catalog and in the Eagle Handbook. Because of the unique nature of nursing, the Division of Nursing has expanded on these institutional policies. The Division of Nursing Student Handbook contains those policies specific to nursing, and it is updated annually. Policies in the Division Handbook are reviewed and evaluated by the Student Affairs Committee. In addition to written policies, nursing students at Carson-Newman are assigned an advisor who is available to assist the student as needed on the road to a degree in nursing.

Student Nurses' Association

The Carson-Newman Chapter of the Tennessee Student Nurses’ Association invites anyone to join who has declared nursing as their major. The purpose of the Association is to support nursing education; provide programs of interest; aid in the student's transition into the professional role; and to promote cohesiveness, cooperation, and communication between students and faculty.

Annual Picnic

An annual picnic is given at the beginning of the academic year for all nursing majors. The event is sponsored by the Division of Nursing and Community Advisory Council for Nursing.

Celebration of Excellence

Just before graduation, senior nursing students and graduating masters' in nursing students are honored at the Celebration of Excellence ceremony. This formal spring event is attended by family members and friends of the graduating classes. Class members are recognized for their accomplishments, receive the Carson-Newman BSN or MSN pin, and the ceremony ends with a reception.
