POST-MASTERS CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

The post-masters certificate program requires a minimum of 16 semester hours to a maximum 36 semester hours. An individual course of study is designed for the applicant to complete the requirements for the national certification examination in the area of family/gerontological nurse practitioner. Upon successful completion of the entire required course and clinical practicum, the student will receive a certificate of completion from the Board of Trustees.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST-MASTER'S PROGRAM:

• A master's degree in nursing from a NLN or CCNE accredited program.
• Grade point average of 3.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale in the previous master's program
• Application and $50.00 non refundable application fee
• One official transcript from previous graduate college or university course work.
• Three letters of recommendation attesting to employment history, academic performance, and character.
• A current resume or vitae
• Current active registered nurse licensure in the state of Tennessee
• The equivalent of one year full-time professional nursing employment within the three-year period prior to application for admission to the program.
• Letter of personal goals and aspirations.

Please note: All students admitted into the Graduate Studies of Nursing Program who are actively pursuing coursework, either degree seeking or certificate seeking, will be given priority over new admissions or inactive students for placement into clinical courses. If there is no room in the program to allow the student to complete the program within the time allotted, then the applicant is not accepted. Tuition and fees for the graduate program in nursing will be the same for all students. The student must complete the certificate program within (5) years from time of admission to Carson-Newman College.
