Carson-Newman presents an evening with a television pioneer
(Sept. 5, 2017) – Carson-Newman University, in partnership with the Knoxville Film Festival, will present “An Evening with Ross K. Bagwell, Sr.” Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Phoenix Theater located in Henderson Humanities Building on campus.
Bagwell is the subject of the new documentary film “Television Pioneer: The Story of Ross K. Bagwell, Sr.,” which is screening during the Knoxville Film Festival Sept. 15-17 at the Regal Downtown West Cinema 8 in Knoxville.
Bagwell is well-known in the cable television industry having been one of the “pioneers” in cable television programming. From starting as a page at NBC in New York to his current company Bagwell Entertainment, LLC, he has been responsible for dozens of cable television programs over the course of his 60 year career.
The documentary was produced and directed by Carson-Newman alumna Kristen Dye. Dye has worked on numerous television shows, films and commercials. She currently is a producer for RIVR Media in Knoxville.
“After getting more involved in the entertainment industry in Knoxville, I quickly learned about Ross K. Bagwell, Sr. and his influence on the cable television industry. Being a television producer myself, I was curious about his story and felt compelled to create a biographical documentary film regarding his life. I approached RIVR Media about producing the documentary, and they immediately jumped on board,” Dye said.
She added, “I hope that the film brings awareness to the television industry in Knoxville and that Ross K. Bagwell, Sr. is recognized for his impact on the cable television industry. I hope that his story inspires people to pursue their dreams, to think outside of the box and to embrace the support of their families. Dreams really do come true; Ross K. Bagwell, Sr. is a perfect example.”
The event at Carson-Newman will feature a short preview of Dye’s film as well as an onstage interview with Bagwell and Dye. The event is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited.
