Vice President of Student Affairs
Carson-Newman College invites applications for the position of Vice President of Student Affairs. Carson-Newman, one of the oldest Baptist colleges in the nation, is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee which is 25 miles northeast of Knoxville along the north side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Vice President of Student Affairs is a member of the College’s Executive Council and is the primary college officer for supporting its students in various aspects of campus life. In this role, the Vice President is responsible for the planning, development, and administration of all aspects of student affairs, including the supervision of staff, programs, and activities in the Student Affairs Division. This position oversees the areas of Judicial Services, Campus Ministries, Residence Life and Conference Services, Student Activities, Intramural and Recreational Programs, Health Services, and Safety and Security. The Vice President works in collaboration
with Career Services, Counseling Services, the Bonner Scholar Community Service Program, the Freshman Year Experience, and various wellness programs to ensure quality offerings designed to support a holistic Christian learning environment.
Qualifications for Vice President of Student Affairs are as follows.
- An understanding of Baptist life and work essential. Experience working in a Baptist higher education environment preferred.
- Substantial experience and a proven track record of success preferably in a Christian college environment in managing student life programs, engaging students, managing residence halls and auxiliary services, and crisis management.
- A vision that links student life with academic programs, student recruitment and retention initiatives, and alumni support.
- Proven fiscal management experience, including developing and controlling budgets.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of constituents from diverse backgrounds, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents.
- A familiarity with best practices and contemporary issues pertaining to student affairs and activities, especially with regard to increasing student retention and success.
- An appropriate doctoral degree in a field that positions the candidate well for administration of a Student Affairs Division is preferred. However, a master’s degree with significant experience in student affairs may be considered.
