POSITION:
Full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track position as Assistant Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences.
STARTING DATE: August 1, 2008. One year appointment with possibility of becoming tenure track
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Teach nutrition, food science, and food systems administration courses; direct the CADE accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics; recruit and advise students; sponsor the Student Dietetic Association; and serve on departmental and college committees.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Doctorate in any area of food science, nutrition, dietetics with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences; demonstrated successful teaching experience in higher education; Registered Dietitian (RD); TN Licensure as Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN); and commitment to team work, scholarship, and professional involvement including active membership in the American Dietetic Association and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS). Carson-Newman employs faculty and staff who are actively supportive, through a local church, of its aims as a college with a Christian commitment.
THE DEPARTMENT:
The department is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences through 2015. The Didactic Program in Dietetics is accredited by the Commission on Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) through 2016. The department currently offers four majors: food, nutrition, and dietetics; consumer services: general, interior design, and retailing; child and family studies with early childhood education (teacher licensure); and family and consumer sciences education (teacher licensure). The Division of Family and Consumer Sciences is newly housed in Blye-Poteat Hall, a two-story, 18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility with classrooms and laboratories featuring the latest in instructional technology. The Thermador-BOSCH food and nutrition sciences laboratory is a national field test site for the Thermador professional ranges and displays a wide variety of cabinetry, sinks/faucets,
and countertops thus benefitting other majors in consumer services, retailing, and interior design. The adjacent Child Development Lab is a 6,000-square- foot facility with adjoining playground.

Carson-Newman is a nationally recognized, private, liberal arts college. Located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, with a full-time faculty of 133 and some 1800 students, Carson-Newman College offers degrees in 60 majors including graduate degrees in education and nursing and an associate degree in Christian ministries.
