Phoenix Circle

 What is the Phoenix Circle

The Phoenix Circle is an opportunity for Carson-Newman University Theatre to honor the most dedicated and committed artists who choose to support Theatre. The goal of The Phoenix Circle is to embrace the past of Carson-Newman Theatre, inspire youth in the present, and to rise together for a compelling future.

In uncertain economic times, the arts are often thought of as extra-curricular, a diversion or even expendable.  But the artist/poet has been given the tools to touch the heart and emotions in a way that transcends the simple spoken word.  God gives people the gift of creativity not as a consolation prize but as a spiritual blessing and the C-N theatre program cultivates those gifts in developing the next generation of creatives.  By joining The Phoenix Circle you become an integral part of the narrative providing greater opportunity and Igniting the Power of Story.

Our Mission:

The Carson-Newman University Theatre program offers collaborative work and study experiences for developing creative expression, community engagement and leadership and communication skills in a Christian environment as preparation for a lifetime of service.

To this end, the Theatre degree emphasizes collaboration, experimentation, and opportunity.  With courses in acting, directing, design and production development, the theatre degree is an educational cross-section of theatre culminating in a unique senior capstone project.  Balancing project based coursework, classical techniques, numerous opportunities for invaluable production experience and conference attendance at both the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) and STORY Chicago (for graduating seniors), the program strives to create amazing new works and reinterpret existing plays.
