Dr. Melanie Hodgson recently served as the department chair of the Health, Physical Education and Sport Science department and has been a professor of Physical Education at Carson Newman for 20 years. She completed her B.S. in Physical Education, M.S. in Special education and Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, respectively, at the University of Tennessee. Her teaching responsibilities include: practicum in Physical Education I and II, teaching individual and dual sports, teaching physical education in elementary school, rhythmic movement education, adapted physical education and teaching physical education and wellness in secondary school.
Prior to Carson Newman she taught and directed the special education progarm at Jefferson county high school for 15 years which served the following handicapped students: educable mentally retarded, trainable mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed, physically handicapped, learning disabled, multiple handicapped, deaf, and visually handicapped.
Dr. Hodgson is a current member of Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) and First Baptist Church in Morristown. She is an extremely proud mother of her two children, Trevor and Cara, with her husband Jack.
