Dr. Hawkins is the director of the Reading Specialist Program and teaches the core literacy courses in this program. Additionally, she teaches middle school methods, K-6 literacy methods, and middle grades literacy methods. Her areas of interest include reading for pleasure and motivation to read.
She is a licensed Reading Specialist and has taught in public schools in Tennessee and Texas. Her public school experience includes teaching in elementary, intermediate, and middle schools. She is a member of the International Reading Association, the Tennessee Reading Association, the Mossy Creek Literacy Council, and the Association for Middle Level Education.
She enjoys reading young adult novels and spending time with her husband and two children.
