Dr. Laura Wadlington is a Licensed Psychologist, Health Service Provider, who has experience in mental health, school psychology and private practice. She teaches in the areas of human development and abnormal psychology. Her research interests are multiple intelligences, optimism and self-efficacy. Dr. Wadlington also serves as Chair of the Department of Psychology and Dean of the School of Social Sciences. She enjoys hiking, smooth water kayaking, and singing with several groups.

Dr. Walker serves as the Director of the Educational Leadership Program. He teachers first-year classes in the program, which include: Foundations of Leadership; Legal and Ethical Issues; Change, Theory and Practice; Evaluation for Continuous Improvement; Management of the School; Administrator Field Experience; and Professional Learning Community. Undergraduate classes taught by Dr. Walker are Foundations of Education and Diversity of the Home, School and Community.
His previous teaching experience consists of 32.5 years in public education in Tennessee, having served twelve years as Superintendent of Morristown City Schools and Hamblen County Schools.
Dr. Walker is a native of East Tennessee, having spent most of his life residing in Hamblen County. His hobbies are woodcarving, fishing and hunting. He is married to Sandra Wade Walker. They have two sons, Roderick and Jason, and one granddaughter, Peyton. -

Walker has taught physical education and wellness for 13 years and coached high school girls basketball for four years.
She has raised three children, all of whom have participated or are participating in collegiate athletics.
Her son Darrion is a cheer and dance coach in Memphis, Tenn. Chris is a former defensive end for the University of Tennessee, while Briana is a senior psychology major and basketball player at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Mr. Mark Wankel has been teaching Art Appreciation & Art Fundamentals for us since the spring of 2008. Mr. Wankel is a painter who resides in Knoxville. His personal work is primarily abstract and colorful, but he has additional (more representational when necessary) talents in drawing and painting as well. He earned his BA from Emory & Henry College (in Virginia), and his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Ondes Webster – Ondes is the Director of Physical Plant. Mr. Webster came to Carson-Newman College April 2, 2002. Mr. Webster came from Johnson & Galyon Contractors with nineteen (19) years of service, he was Job Superintendent. Mr. Webster is a graduate of State Tech where he studied management and training for superintendent.

Mr. Matt Weyer directs the percussion studio at Carson-Newman University with responsibilities including private studio instruction, directing the percussion ensemble, assisting with the Carson-Newman marching band, and teaching the percussion methods course for music education majors. In addition to these duties, Matt is the founder of Contemporary Percussion Concepts, a consulting and educational activity specializing in percussion lessons, clinics, arranging, group instruction, and program consulting.
From 2005 - 2008, Mr. Weyer served as the percussion director at Plano West Senior High School in Plano, Texas, a position which involved teaching and supervision of percussion at six schools in the “west cluster” of Plano ISD. Matt’s duties in Plano included directing multiple percussion ensembles, leading the steel band, directing and arranging for the multiple drumlines, coaching the multiple concert band and orchestra percussion sections, and teaching 40 – 50 private lessons per week. During this period of time, the percussion groups under Mr. Weyer’s direction received high ratings and were recognized in the area for their excellence.
Mr. Weyer has also held the positions of assistant band director/percussion director at Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee, and assistant band director at Gatesville High School in Gatesville, Texas. Matt holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of Georgia, where he also completed course work toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Performance. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, Matt is a proud alumnus of the 1999 Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps of Toledo, Ohio, and lives in Knoxville with his wife, Missi.

Dr. Whaley teaches Human Development through the Lifespan; Professional Orientation; Senior Seminar; Family Science; Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE); and Methods of Teaching FCSE; and she supervises students in FCSE at the secondary level.
Her specialty area is secondary Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) education, and her areas of interest include student development and maintaining FACS education in public schools. Dr. Whaley’s research areas are sexual harassment prevention in the workplace and training design.
Dr. Whaley is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the National Council on Family Relations.
She is a native Tennessean whose places of residence include Utah and Virginia. She enjoys spending time with her Lhasa Apso puppies and family, reading, and cooking.

As the Residence Life Coordinator for Alumni Hall and Swann Hall, Patricia Wiggins oversees the RAs for those buildings, as well as assists students with residence hall living. She is originally from Bartow, FL; though she most recently lived in New Orleans, LA before coming to Carson-Newman. Trish joined the Carson-Newman family in August of 2010.
Trish earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Counseling with a Bible minor from the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, FL. After college, she moved to New Orleans, where she earned her Master of Arts in Christian Education with emphases in Collegiate Ministry and Administration from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. While in New Orleans, Trish began to develop her passion for Residence Life by serving as a Resident Assistant and working in the Housing Department. When she is not planning Residence Life events or attending one of the many Carson-Newman events throughout the year, Trish enjoys movies and music, outdoor activities such as camping, and painting. She also loves to cook, especially New Orleans Cajun food.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology at Carson-Newman, Matt pursued a variety of jobs, including being a Church Youth Director and owning a Bike Shop! He also competed a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee. When a position came open in the Biology Department, Matt decided to apply and we were lucky enough to be able to add him to our staff! Ms. Lauren Wood is an instructor of reading, writing, and grammar in the ELI. A 1993 music education Carson-Newman graduate, Mrs. Julie Hensley Wright returned to Carson-Newman as its Director of the Preparatory School of Music in 1997 and became Music Librarian in August, 2007. In 2012, Mrs. Wright also took over as departmental administrative assistant in the music department.
Mrs. Wright is a private piano teacher and has maintained a studio in Jefferson City for the past 10 years. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, she obtained certification in piano pedagogy in December, 2001. She currently serves as pianist at Bethel Baptist Church in Morristown, TN and is the Executive Secretary of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity.
