The Department of Safety may issue a temporary driver license to an F-1 student for the length of time the student is authorized to be in the country if the student presents acceptable identification documents, pays required fees, and passes any required tests at the Driver License Service Center. As an F-1 student, you may be eligible to apply for a temporary license if you present the following documents:
- Valid foreign passport
- F-1 student visa
- Your I-94 (which will indicate your authorized stay)
- Original signed I-20
- Verification of a social security number, if one has been issued
- 2 proofs of Tennessee residency (any bill or piece of mail that comes to your address)
- Approximately $19.50 for license fee
