How did you come to Carson-Newman?

My grandparents moved to Dandridge, TN when I was a freshman in high school. I didn’t start looking for colleges until probably too late but they read in the newspaper that Carson Newman University was holding a full tuition scholarship competition. I had also been attracted to the school because of the Bonner program. I came up in January of 2009 and participated in the competition. I was very nervous but the audition went well and while walking around the campus I got this feeling of overwhelming calm. I knew that God had placed me there for a reason. Once I received my acceptance letter and my reward letter there were no more discussions. I was determined to go to Carson Newman University. I have been here for three years and plan to graduate in the spring of 2013. I have been truly blessed by the students and professors here. God is using me in ways that I didn’t know he could.

What is your favorite experience as an RA?

I really enjoyed being involved with move in day. I have had some great experiences since then but the feelings I had when all the girls were moving in was excitement, nervousness, hesitation, adrenaline. I loved seeing the freshman students and their families as well. I remember being in their shoes not that long ago. I was able to talk to a few girls and give some advice. I remember my parents being even more nervous than I was and I saw that in a few mothers and fathers. I am so thankful to have been given this position because it is pushing me to step outside my comfort zone and form relationships with girls I have never met. I am excited to see what God has in store for me and also the girls who live in Alumni.

Major: Elementary Education

Hometown: Maryville,TN.

Interests/Hobbies: I love to read, sing, and hang out with friends. I am up for most things. I love to have lazy movie days with my family, or crazy, intense game nights. I like to knit and swim. I love anything that involves children. I love spending my time babysitting or working in the nursery at church. I love organizing rooms and decorating space that needs help. These are just some of the things that interest me.

How did you come to Carson-Newman?

I grew up around Carson-Newman. My family has been attending this college for as long as I can remember. My parents met here, and so I spent year after year coming here for reunions and homecomings. I was also a swimmer up through high school, and we would have meets in the MSAC. I grew up loving this school, and I did not truly see myself attending somewhere else. I do not like how UT is so big, and I feel like here, I am not just a number. I chose this school because I am known and helped to be the best that I can be.

What is your favorite experience as an RA?

My favorite experience as an RA would have to be getting to know so many more people than I have met in the previous years at Carson-Newman. I feel like more a part of the community of the students at Carson-Newman. I feel like I have become more open, and I find myself saying hello to everyone that I pass, whether I know them or not. I like that this job has made me more open and feel like I can talk to anyone. I like who this job has helped me to become!

How did you come to Carson-Newman?

I came to Carson Newman because I was interested in the Biology department and it's great reputation. When I visited the school, I fell in love with the campus. Everyone is kind and loving. The buildings, although old, have a unique and beautiful quality to them. Being at Carson Newman feels like we are a part of a family; it's like being at home.

What is your favorite experience as an RA?

I love spending quality time with the residents on my hall. Having hall meetings, visiting with them in their rooms, or eating int the cafeteria together may be simple things but they bring us together as a community and also as friends. Creating new bonds with people I may have otherwise never been able to spend time with has been the best part about this experience.

What is your favorite experience as an RA?

My favorite experience being an RA so far was getting my girls involved in our program event where we collected clothes, cans, and school supplies. We ended it all with a really fun, “tail-gating” party.

How did you come to Carson-Newman?

Carson-Newman was a college for me that was just far enough from home so I could live on campus, but also close enough so that I could visit when I needed to. Upon visiting Carson-Newman during my Junior year I knew that this was the place I was supposed to be. Carson-Newman has such a hometown feel with a family-based staff.
