RECREATIONAL SERVICES TRIPS

 The Recreational Services Council has five trips planned for students this fall!. This is your personal invitation from the council members Ricke Hester, Tristan MacDonald, Brent McLemore and Spenser Smith to join the fun!  Final registration for all trips is in the Rec. Services Office - MSAC room 1014 along with payment as required per trip.  On-line pre-registration us available below.

 BIKE TRIP, CADES COVE LOOP - Saturday, September 9- 7:00am - 2:00pm

NOTE:  Students completing this trip will receive a CLW credit!!!

Enjoy beautiful Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by biking the 11 mile loop road around the cove. The one way road passes through forests, meadows and streams. We may see bears or deer along the way The ride is moderately difficult with stretches of up and downhill as well as level sections. This is a great trip for beautiful mountain scenery and some exercise! All participants should be able to ride a bike and be in good physical shapeThe loop road is closed to cars until 10:00am, thus our early leave time so we can rent bikes and get on the loop with no cars!  The drive time to Cades Cove is about an hour and 45 minutes, and the bike ride will take from 1.5 to 2 hours.  On the way back to C-N we'll stop for lunch.  Trip participants are responsible for paying for their lunch. Trip capacity:20 persons. Transportation on 2 vans. Leave C-N at 7:00am and return about 2:00pm. Regular price = $15.00 (for bike rental). Your cost is only $5.00 (and lunch) and includes transportation

 KAYAKING & PADDLEBOARDING– Saturday, September 16 – 1:30pm - 5:00pm, Cherokee Lake, Morristown

Ever try lake kayaking or the new popular sport of paddleboarding?  Now's your chance.  Try either or both for an enjoyable couple of hours on Cherokee lake near Panther Creek.   All equipment is provided.  We'll travel by van and car for about 25 minutes to Lakeway H2O, and they'll set you up. You'll be back to campus in time for dinner. Trip capacity: 15 persons. Transportation in 1 van & private vehicles.  Leave C-N at 1:30pm and return about 5:00pm.  Regular price = $25.00.  Your cost is only $8.00 including transportation!

HIKE IN THE SMOKIES - Sunday, October 15 1:30pm - 8:30pm Great Smokies

Soak in the beautiful fall colors of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with an invigorating hike to Andrews Bald and Clingman's Dome.  Clingman's Dome is the highest point in Tennessee and the highest point on the famous Appalachian Trail at 6,643 feet above sea level.  The view on a clear day is spectacular.  The hike to the Dome is only 1 mile round trip.  The hike to Andrew's Bald is 3.6 miles round trip and is moderate to easy in difficulty.  Andrew's Bald is a grassy knoll with 180 degrees of unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains - it's gorgeous!  Trip capacity: 20 persons. Transportation in 2 vans. Leave C-N at 1:30pm and return about 8:30pm.  Trip is FREE including transportation, but participants are responsible for bringing their own food for dinner.

 ZIPLINING/HORSEBACK RIDING – Saturday, October 28, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Experience some of the longest ziplines in the Smokies, and enjoy a 4 mile horseback ride on the same day!  Or, select one but not the other.The full zipline course includes 2 miles of zipping fun, high flying adventure, and 6 lines! Each line is built uniquely and all have different breath-taking scenery. One line goes through a 60 foot tunnel and 2 lines are over 3,000 feet long! The horseback ride is a gentle guided tour. Trip capacity 20 persons. Transportation in 2 vans.  Leave C-N at 9:00am and return about 4:00pm. Normal cost for both activities = $74.00. (Zipine only 69.00, Horseback only 30.00)  Your cost for both activities including transportation is only $35.00. (Zipline only = 30.00, Horseback only = 15.00)  Participants are responsible for food purchases while on the trip.

DOLLYWOOD - Saturday, November 18, 10:00am - 7:00pm, Pigeon Forge

Spend the day at Dollywood, the theme park made famous by Dolly Parton. In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountains area. The park hosts a number of concerts and musical events each year, including appearances by Parton and her family, as well as other national and local musical acts. Dollywood hosts 2.5 million guests in a typical season. Enjoy the “Wild Eagle”, America's first wing coaster, and the first ride of its kind in the U.S. New last year was the “Lightning Rod”, the world's first launched and fastest wooden coaster. New this year is "Drop Line" which drops you over 200 feet at 77 mph! Rides, shows and food! Dollywood has something for everyone. You can’t go wrong with this trip!  Trip capacity: 10.  Transportation by 1 van. Leave C-N at 10:00am and return about 7:00pm.  Normal cost = $68.00 (not including food).  Your cost is only $15.00 including transportation.  Trip participants are responsible for food purchased in the park.
