First Year Experience

The First Year Experience initiative at Carson-Newman is designed to bring first-year students together to create an enhanced and stimulating atmosphere on campus through the development of a service-learning culture. FYE works to develop the relationship between campus life and the classroom by blending the lines of where one ends and the other begins. Services offered to all First Year students will be:

Living-Learning Environments

  • A community challenge that encourages overall responsibility in the Residence Hall
  • A strong community that will challenge FYE students to think critically
  • Informal, out-of-class contact with faculty and staff including O-leader/peer mentors
  • Involvement and leadership opportunities like Hall Council.

Campus Life Involvement

  • Scheduled B.O.L.D. sessions with FYE groups throughout the first semester
  • Large scale events to keep FYE students engaged socially on campus
  • Peer Mentoring by Orientation leaders during the first semester
  • FYE Checkups done throughout the semester to increase awareness on academic progression
