2013 Spring Break Mission Experience
We are glad you are interested in S.P.O.T.S. (Special Projects Other than Summer) sponsored by Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Carson-Newman University! It is a wonderful opportunity to serve God and others. This year’s mission sites are described by the type of ministry and a description of some general opportunities that you could expect while serving. We hope you will prayerfully consider your participation on this year’s Spring S.P.O.T.S. Mission Experiences!
The S.P.O.T.S. Application will assist Campus Ministries in placing you on a team. Please complete the application online or turn in a physical copy of the application with the noted non-refundable deposit to the Campus Ministries House (2214 Branner Avenue) no later than Thursday, February 14th. (It would be helpful if you could submit your application before this date so we may begin processing the applications and conducting interviews for those who may need them.)
Cost, Dates, & Trip Information:
Each trip has a different cost (see trip descriptions on application). This year we are very excited to offer a 25% discount for each participant! (Already deducted in the described cost) The price includes all expenses (housing, meals, transportation, supplies, supplementary insurance, and other necessary expenses), except souvenirs. The deposit is payable to Campus Ministries by the specified date. Please note the specific trip dates for each site since they are not all the same. Please note that all balances are due by Monday, March 4th.
You are responsible for securing the required funds. If cost is a problem for you, please let us know; some partial scholarships may be available. The Campus Ministries Office can provide a letter (when you submit your application) for you to send to your home church or other appropriate individuals inviting them to sponsor you. If you want your home church to sponsor you, please submit your application as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for you to send our letter with a cover letter from you to your church. An initial phone call to the appropriate contact person could assist in speeding up the process since time is short!
Please note that all balances MUST be paid. Campus Ministries will work with each person on an individual basis; however, if your SPOTS balance is not paid by March 4th you will not be allowed to go on the desired SPOTS experience unless alternate plans have been discussed with the Campus Ministries Staff.
If this is your first time serving or you have never had a SPOTS interview then you will need to sign-up at the Campus Ministries House (865-471-3537 or e-mail Michelle Hodge, Campus Ministries Administrative Assistant, firstname.lastname@example.org) for a 15-minute student-friendly meeting with a member of the Campus Ministries Staff, and/or a Missions Team representative, which will help us get to know you better (interests, skills, etc.). If you have had a previous interview but would still like to schedule an interview to ask questions about your specific trip, please follow the above instructions.
Teams will officially be announced and have their first team meeting at BCM’s B.A.S.I.C. on Wednesday, February 20th, 9:00 p.m., First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Each team will have approximately 2-3 additional team meetings to fill out paperwork, ask questions, bond with teammates, pray, and prepare for your mission experience.
REQUIREMENTS: Health insurance is strongly recommended and can be purchased through insurance providers. A notarized liability release form is required to participate in SPOTS.
