HAZARD, KENTUCKY

This mission team will be working with Appalachia Service Project. ASP is one of the nation's Largest construction ministries. ASP has been helping to keep homes warmer, dryer, and safer for more than 40 years. Every year thousands of volunteers work to accomplish their goal of renovating homes and lives; however, due to the extreme need only 1 out of 10 familes get chosen to be an ASP ministry site. ASP has locations in KY, NC, VA, West VA, and TN.  We have chosen KY due to their great need.

Missionaries will be working in Hazard, Ky (Perry Co.). Perry Co. is one of the poorest areas in Appalachia with a poverty rate of 27.2% (Nat'l rate is 14.3%) and a per capita income of $12,224. This team will be helping to both serve and share the love of Christ through construction and renovation of a home in this area.  Though it is a physical ministry, it is also a relational one because missionaries will have plenty of time to interact with the Appalachian family they are serving. ASP also offers "EG's" (Educational Groups) where participants will have evening programs and group discussions to learn not only about the culture, people, and music of the area, but also the multiple causes and effects of poverty within this region of Appalachia.

All Applicants are welcome. You do not have to have a large knowledge of construction experience to apply. Preference will however be given to those with a base knowledge of renovation projects.
