REQUIREMENTS:

  • Application
  • Finances- Deposits and full balances must be paid  prior to leaving on a S.P.O.T.S. Mission Experience
  • Liability Release- A notarized liability release form is required to participate and must also be turned in prior to leaving on S.P.O.T.S.
  • Health Form- A health form returned to your team leader
  • Insurance- While it cannot be required, health insurance is strongly recommended and temporary plans can be purchased through private insurance providers. Let us know if you need any information (Int'l Travel Insurance will be provided through the cost of your trip).
  • Passport- If traveling internationally, a passport and potential shots may be required  (If you do not have a passport please apply ASAP!).

 

Application Instructions & FAQs:

We are so glad you are interested in S.P.O.T.S. (Special Projects Other than Summer) sponsored by Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Carson-Newman University!  It is a wonderful opportunity to serve God and others. 

The S.P.O.T.S. Application will assist Campus Ministries in placing you on a team. Please see the trip descriptions and complete the application online and turn-in the noted non-refundable deposit to the Campus Ministries House (2214 Branner Avenue) no later than the due date listed above (It would be helpful if you could submit your application before this date so we may begin processing the applications and conducting interviews for those who may need them. Trips fill up fast so sign up now!)

Applications Process:

All participants MUST apply online.  Please note that you may not be contacted for an interview until the deposit due date has been completed.  Please go on and pay your deposit.  If for some reason you are not selected to participate then your deposit will be returned.  For all other circumstances the deposit is considered non-refundable.  When an applicant applies they are expected to be serious about participating in a S.P.O.T.S. Trip.  If a trip is applied for, the participant is expected to pay the deposit and remaining balance by the due dates listed.  If more information is needed by the participant before applying please contact a member of the Campus Ministries Staff, campusministries@cn.edu. 

Interviews:

If this is your first time serving or you have never had a SPOTS interview then you will need to sign-up at the Campus Ministries House (865-471-3537 or e-mail Michelle Hodge, Campus Ministries Administrative Assistant, mhodge@cn.edu) for a 20-minute student-friendly meeting with a member of the Campus Ministries Staff, and/or a Missions Team representative.  This will help the staff to get to know you better (interests, skills, etc.). If you have had a previous interview but would still like to schedule an interview to ask questions about your specific trip, please follow the above instructions. 

Team Meetings:

Teams will officially be announced and have their first team meeting at BCM’s B.A.S.I.C. noted in the Important Dates above.  Each team will have approximately 2-3 additional team meetings to receive a packing list for the trip, fill out paperwork, ask questions, bond with teammates, pray, and prepare for your mission experience.

Cost, Dates, and Trips Information:

Each trip has a different cost.  We are very excited to offer trips that are significantly subsidized for each participant. (Already deducted in the described cost) The price includes all expenses (housing, meals, transportation, supplies, supplementary insurance, T-Shirt, and other necessary expenses), except souvenirs. The deposit ispayable to: Campus Ministries by the specified date. Please note the specific trip dates for each site since they are not all the same. Please also note theBalance DUE Date. 

Fundraising:

You are responsible for securing the required funds.  If cost is a problem for you, please let us know; some partial scholarships may be available. The Campus Ministries Office can provide a letter (after you submit your application) for you to send to your home church or other appropriate individuals inviting them to sponsor you.  If you want your home church to sponsor you, please submit your application as soon as possible to allow sufficient time for you to send our letter with a cover letter from you to your church.  An initial phone call to the appropriate contact person could assist in speeding up the process since time is short!

Please note that all balances MUST be paid. Campus Ministries will work with each person on an individual basis; however, if your SPOTS balance is not paid by the week of your trip you will not be allowed to go on the desired SPOTS experience unless alternate plans have been discussed with the Campus Ministries Staff.
